lf-mightym.gifThe Mighty Manatees are a group of musicians who play a style known as “dreadneck” music. It is a blend of country, blues, rock, and reggae. This genre has also been referred to as: “bottleneck dub”. Influences include: Robert Johnson, Robert Zimmerman, Robert Hunter, and Robert Nesta Marley. Yesireebob! Born on Halloween 1985 in the hills of Pennsylvania, The Manatees have been performing for twenty years.
For the first few years they were simply an acoustic duo using drum machines, sequencers, and samples. During this period they released two live albums and two live videos.
In the early nineties the duo went electric, added a real drummer and bassist, and released their first studio CD, “High Water”. Soon after adding a keyboardist and a second drummer/percussionist, the band released their double CD, “Live Medicine”.

Co-Founder Ranger Will Hodgson has released a series of solo albums including, “Father Fisheye” and “Southpaw”.

The Manatees have been featured on several compilation CD’s and have done session work for a wide variety of artists.
In concert the band has played with the Spin Doctors, Richard Hell, The Radiators, David Amram, The Cowboy Junkies, Paul Krassner, America, and U2 to name a few.
The Manatees have a smaller version of itself known as “The Medicine Brothers” which performs as a duo or trio.

with Three Legged Fox!

tf-threel.gifThree Legged Fox is a band from the suburbs outside of Philadelphia. Two members of the band are from the other side of the Delaware River and call New Jersey home. Yet the band met and formed in Newark, Delaware. For the members, ‘where’ doesn’t matter so long as it did. The band was formed with the most innocent of purposes; college students who wanted to play covers and maybe even a show or two. Sure enough, four people who possessed a common love for music, ended up in the same room in the spring of 2006, and the line-up was set.

Kyle Wareham (vocals, rhythm guitar), Mike Brody (lead guitar), Kory Kochersperger (drums) and Eric Weisenstein (bass guitar) soon reached the realization that playing cover songs offered little creative satisfaction. The band began to write original material and their first moment of success came less than a month after the bands conception. In April Three Legged Fox won the University of Delaware Battle of the Bands. The buzz had started in Newark and the band began playing shows anywhere that people would listen. Bars, fraternity parties, school sponsored events, the ‘where’ wasn’t half as important as the ability to make a connection with those in attendance.

The band spent their summer writing and recording what would become their debut full length album, as well as tackling a full show schedule. They played at beach bars in New Jersey, venues all over Philadelphia, multiple college bars in Newark Delaware, and private parties everywhere in between. All the while, the band tightened musically, the friendship grew and the aspirations to record an album slowly worked to become a reality. By the time they headed to New York City to put the final touches on their record, Three Legged Fox had written and recorded 11 songs. Each track has spawned from different inspirations and in turn, offers an entirely different vibe from the next song on the list. The album would take on the name IDEAS, an ode to the different styles musically and lyrically that encompass it.

By years end, the band had shared stages with recognized recording artists such as Soldiers of Jah Army, and Jeffrey Gaines. IDEAS, was released in early December and has helped the band gain further exposure to the public. Ultimately, no one in Three Legged Fox claims that what they’re doing is of earth-shattering importance. And for them, the college festivals they’ve headlined, the albums they’ve sold, and the positive accolades they’ve received from kids and adults alike are all an added bonus. Fundamentally, they are a reggae/pop/rock four-piece band from PA or DE or NJ who simply enjoy playing songs with each other. It’s the people who have seen their show, or listen to their album who seem to think they are destined for something bigger. And if that is true, Three Legged Fox wouldn’t mind going for the ride.
