Brooke Shive and the 45s

Featuring Andy Goessling of Railroad Earth, July 31st

Backing Brooke Shive in her quest to bring blues and soul back to the mainstream of American music is the 45’s. After spending countless hours searching and rehearsing musicians, Brooke and her father, drummer Steve Shive, have compiled a lineup of veteran musicians that compliment Brooke perfectly.

The band performs original material as well tracks from the Bluescasters self-titled debut album, which Steve co-wrote and produced, along with a completely revamped list of their favorite tunes by other writers, artists and friends, including but not limited to Delbert McClinton, Jagger and Richards, Billy Goodman, Phil Seymour, Grace Potter, Etta James and Don Robey. They play the songs they perform in their own groove-oriented style, and lay down a solid foundation for one of the today’s truly gifted and up and coming vocalists.

Providing the backbone of the group is drummer Steve Shive. Throughout his career as a sideman and session player for artists such as Tim Moore, Daryl Hall, Kingfish, Jimmy Jamieson, Robbie Dupree, David Lindley and producers Ken Scott, Joe Hardy and Tom Marolda. Steve had always harbored a love for the blues, and his personal take on the genre shines through on the Bluescasters self-titled debut. As the founder of the Bluescasters, Steve spent more than five years laying the groundwork for what would become the 45’s.

Laying down the funk for the 45’s is bassist Jim Gilheany, formerly of Quarter Moon. Jim, a veteran in the Philadelphia blues music scene, has toured and the shared the stage with music greats Sonny Rhodes and Rick Danko of The Band. As of member of New Jersey’s Kings in Disguise, Jim has opened up for heralded acts such as Van Morrison, Taj Mahal, Steeley Dan, Dr. John, and Don Henley.

Taking the lead in the band is guitarist Steve Gordeuk. A solo artist and member of Fragile and the Norm Band, Steve makes his living touring the east coast providing audiences with his mesmerizing style of blues and classic rock, as well as educating young musicians.

Brooke Shive & The 45’s put on a performance that remains unparalleled in the Philadelphia music scene. With a group of seasoned, professional musicians laying down killer grooves behind a fresh, young, talented and dynamic performer in Brooke Shive, the band has built a song list consisting of original material and classic cuts that speak to them. Everything with Brooke Shive & The 45’s revolves around choosing the right songs, and with that, audiences are left with no choice but to rejoice and revel in the band’s performance. People have no problem dancing either!
